The UK's death toll climbed to 31,587 after 346 people died in the space of 24 hours. In England, 207 more people died in hospitals, while Scotland suffered 36 more deaths. Wales registered nine fatalities in hospitals.
Northern Ireland is yet to release its latest figures. Britons have been urged to stay home during the Bank Holiday weekend as police warn motorists they face random checks.
The news comes as Boris Johnson gets ready to outline his plans to relax some lockdown restrictions. Travellers arriving at the UK's air, rail and sea ports from abroad will reportedly have to self-isolate for a fortnight - with those breaking the rules risking deportation or fines of up to £1,000.
