A coronavirus testing system for arrivals into the UK is expected to be introduced this month under plans to halve the existing 14-day quarantine for people from “high-risk” countries.
Grant Shapps, the transport secretary, is expected to announce details of a trial testing scheme on Thursday as part of proposals to kick-start international travel.
The move comes after concerns mounted yesterday that arrivals into the UK from Italy, mainland Greece and Sweden would be the next to be hit by quarantine measures this week. Italy is one of the most popular countries that Britons can still visit without being forced into isolation upon return.
